Date of crash 16th September 1943.Parent unit 390th Bomber Group Framlingham Suffolk U.S.Army Air Force.the aircraft was returning from an operational flight bombing the U Boat pens at La Pallice in France on returning the formation ran into rain and low cloud and were unable to stay in formation and returned independently Ascend Charlie had sustained damage to its No 1 engine and in the darkness and bad weather conditions it struck the ridge close to Pen Twyn Mawr in the Black Mountains of South Wales GR 24311-25308 small pieces of wreckage remain at the spot where the aircraft came down Fate of the crew sadly they were all killed
